Central to the religious life of the school is the person of Jesus Christ who came among us ‘as one who serves’ (Luke 22.27). Our Catholic school is committed to reaching out to help those in need, through charitable outreach initiatives. All outreach activities connect to the person of Jesus Christ and to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Drawing on the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church, we have a deep commitment to supporting a range of charitable organisations, families and individuals in need.
Students at Mater Dei Catholic Primary School Blakehurst experience connection with the global community through raising money for Caritas, the Catholic Works Fund, the Indigenous Literacy event and sponsoring the education of a child in Africa. These opportunities develop the children’s understanding of social justice issues.
To ensure that children are aware of the needs of the wider community, support is shown for St Vincent de Paul through Mini Vinnies fundraising, for the Winter Appeal and Christmas Appeal for assistance for those less fortunate. The Mini Vinnies group attend an annual Sleep Out activity. The school supports the Charitable Works Fund through a student-led market day and the Catholic Education Foundation.
